Szijjártó: See Trump as an opportunity!
Instead of facing up to the new reality, the ‘elite of warmongers’ is making a last desperate attempt to go against the will of the people. The Hungarian chief diplomat recalled that this was the first meeting at foreign minister level since the unfavourable election results overseas for the Brussels political elite.
Szijjártó: The game is over!
‘The war-mongering mainstream still doesn’t want to realise that the game is over.’ The new US president wants peace in Ukraine, which is suffering from increasingly intensive attacks by the Russians, which, together with the approaching winter, is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
‘Under these circumstances, everyone should realise that it is better to end the war today than tomorrow. Every new day only brings more suffering and victims, not to mention the risk of escalation.’ Unfortunately, people in the bubble of the EU centre do not want to see Donald Trump’s victory as an opportunity to correct previous wrong decisions.
Danger of a third world war
Szijjártó condemned the concession (by the abdicating Biden administration) to Kiev to be allowed to attack targets far inside Russia with missiles, as this would evoke the danger of a third world war. The idea that Ukraine’s neighbours, in this case NATO and EU member states, should shoot down Russian missiles and drones in the air is similarly absurd.
At the same time, the 15th sanctions package is being prepared, which will also affect the energy sector. Among the particularly abstruse proposals, the Foreign Minister listed ideas from colleagues to impose sanctions on athletes, clubs, church leaders and UN representatives. ‘Let’s be clear: Hungary will not agree to any sanctions that are directed against Hungary’s interests, its national security or its energy security.’
Szijjártó concluded by noting that Hungary was also Ukraine’s largest electricity supplier in October: ‘So much for who plays what role in ensuring the security of energy supply in the region.’
Israel – the EU’s second failure?
‘Breaking off the political dialogue with Israel would be a serious mistake on the part of the EU, because it would put an end to any hope of a peaceful solution.’ With these words, Szijjártó condemned a proposal made by Foreign Affairs Commissioner Josep Borrell to the EU foreign ministers. ‘It’s as if we don’t want to learn from our failure.’ The EU should have realised that its Ukraine strategy failed because all diplomatic channels were cut and dialogue and negotiations were torpedoed. Since the ‘diabolical’ Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, the EU has adopted sanctions against 18 Hamas terrorists and 14 Israeli settlers – ‘these relations speak volumes about the Brussels bubble’.
