Szijjarto: North Korea nuclear threats ‘must not be allowed’

North Korea "must not be allowed to threaten anybody with nuclear arms," Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Facebook after talks by phone with Park Jin, his South Korean counterpart, late on Wednesday.

“Global security has never been as bad since the second world war as now: there are too many armed conflicts in the world that are not only perilous to the affected countries but to other regions, too,” he said. He added that the Korean pensinsula was “not only important for Koreans but for the whole world.”

In their talk, the two ministers agreed that North Korea must not be allowed to resort to nuclear threats, while Hungary will continue to work to that end at international forums.

On another subject, Szijjarto said the turnover of bilateral trade with South Korea had increased by 70 percent in 2023, adding that Korean companies were one of the five largest investment groups in Hungary.
