In the past few days, “we have been faced with extreme weather conditions”, Peter Szijjarto said, adding that the “storms, heavy rains and flash floods have serious consequences in more distant parts of Europe as well”.

In Georgia, unusually heavy rains have led to a landslide in the northern part of the country, many people have died or gone missing, and the storm left behind huge damage, he said on Facebook.

“I expressed my sympathy over the phone to my Georgian colleague and offered Hungarian disaster relief assistance, if need be. Ilia Darchiashvili appreciated the offer and said they would contact us if their own resources are exhausted,” Peter Szijjarto said.

Speaker expresses condolences

Speaker of Parliament Laszlo Kover has expressed his condolences in a telegram sent to the Chairman of Georgia’s Parliament, Parliament’s press office said on Saturday.

In his telegram addressed to Shalva Papuashvili, Kover said he was deeply shocked by news of the landslide that hit the region during the week, claiming the lives of several people.

On behalf of the Hungarian Parliament, Kover expressed his heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences to the relatives of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
