Hungary’s 25-year NATO membership to be commemorated in Missouri
On this day 25 years ago, Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi deposited the instrument of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty with Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in a ceremony held in the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in the city.
To mark the anniversary, a roundtable discussion will be held in the library with Hungary’s Brigadier-General Laszlo Szego and the commander of the State of Nebraska’s National Guard. Szego played a part in the preparation and completion of Hungary’s accession process.
In a message commemorating the anniversary, Tamas Kovacs, Hungary’s consul general serving in Chicago said that in the present times burdened with conflicts and the war in Ukraine it was clear that Hungary had made the right decision when it embarked on a comprehensive military development programme.
The ceremony to be held on Tuesday afternoon local time will be attended by the consul generals of Czechia and Poland, the other two countries marking the 25th anniversary of their NATO accession on this day.
