Hungary is preparing to send a mission of 200 soldiers to Chad next spring under a draft resolution before parliament, the defence minister said in the debate on the proposal on Wednesday.

The mission, requested by the president of Chad, is aimed at helping to curb migration, contribute to the fight against terrorism and ensure security for the implementation of an aid package delivered through the Hungary Helps programme, Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky said.

The minister noted that the Sahel region was one of the sources of illegal migration, while the only stable country in the area was Chad. The Hungarian government has offered its assistance because “problems should be addressed where they are generated,” he said.
