New Institute for Data Science at Semmelweis University

Semmelweis University is deepening its ties with Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ferenc Krausz by founding a new joint institute at the beginning of December.

At the newly founded János Neumann Institute for Data Science, the medical and diagnostic application of molecular infrared fingerprinting will be further researched by the Molecular Fingerprint Research Centre (CMF) headed by Prof. Krausz and Semmelweis University. The aim is to use a simple blood test to diagnose diseases at an early stage and at the same time select the optimal personalised treatment.

The Institute for Data Science focuses on molecular phenotyping, causal links to health information, digitalisation of health data, AI and analysis of the health environment.

The research activities of the CMF focus on the medical-diagnostic applications of ultrafast measurement techniques. The centre’s infrared molecular fingerprinting technology can help in the early diagnosis of tumours and other serious diseases (such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases) and contribute to the initiation of personalised treatments for a full recovery. The CMF’s activities include several medical research programmes in which Semmelweis University has already been involved as a cooperation partner.
