Kariko donates Nobel Prize money to alma mater

The Hungarian Nobel Laureate Katalin Kariko will donate her more than half a million dollars in prize money to support outstanding teachers and students at her alma mater, the University of Szeged, in southern Hungary.

Professor Kariko announced the donation at a talk given in her former school on Tuesday.

Kariko and her research partner Professor Drew Weissman shared the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discoveries that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.
