Used car sales edge up 3.5 percent in August

Used car sales in Hungary rose 3.5pc year-on-year to 73,000 in August, listings site JoAutok.hu said on Thursday, citing figures compiled by DataHouse.

Full-year sales are “practically certain” to beat the record 825,000 in 2022, JoAutok.hu said.

JoAutok.hu CEO Bertalan Halasz said the question was how close to or even how far over the 900,000 mark sales would be.

Among mid-size vehicles, the Opel Astra, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Skoda Octavia were the most popular used cars in Hungary. The Suzuki Swift, Opel Corsa and Volkswagen Polo led the market for compact used cars, and the Volkswagen Passat, BMW 3-series and Audi A4 were the bestsellers in the high-end category.

For the period January-August, used car sales increased 11.4pc year-on-year to 607,600. Sales of imported used cars edged up 1.8pc to 72,300.

New car registrations fall 9.4 percent in August

The number of new passenger car registrations in Hungary fell 9.4pc year-on-year to 8,111 in August, data compiled by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) show.

Hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for 56pc of sales, cars with petrol engines made up 26pc and vehicles with diesel engines 12pc. Fully-electric vehicles accounted for 9pc of sales.

Sales of fully-electric vehicles increased 8.8pc to 518 during the period.

In January-August, new car registrations in Hungary rose 8.2pc year-on-year to 79,976.
