US citizen wanted for 3 counts of murder detained at Zahony crossing with Ukraine
Border police officers have detained an American man wanted for murder on three counts on an international warrant, at the Zahony border crossing with Ukraine, the police headquarters of Szabolcs-Szatmar County said on police.hu on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old man sought to illegally enter Hungary by crossing the Tisza rail bridge in the evening on Nov. 16, the portal said.
He identified himself as a national of Puerto Rico but could not present identification documents or valid documents for staying on Hungarian territory.
A procedure conducted by the Zahony border police directorate identified the man as a US citizen who was listed by Swiss authorities on a European and an international warrant wanted for murder on three counts.
The police have taken the man into custody and contacted the Swiss authorities, the website said.
