US ambassador pays introductory visit to chief public prosecutor’s office
Pressman, in his post in Hungary since August 2022, paid his first official visit to the prosecutor’s office, the statement said.
Polt talked about his role, powers and the constitutional position of the prosecutor’s office in Hungary’s legal system, highlighting the office’s anti-corruption activities and noting new tools for fighting against graft, it said.
He also noted the importance of cooperation with various European Union and international organisations, especially “the excellent partnership maintained for many decades” with the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), the statement added.
Pressman gathered information about legal and practical issues in respect of the activities of the Hungarian prosecutor’s office, its relations with the European Prosecutor’s Office, and new tools of fighting corruption.
They were in agreement that further deepening “excellent relations” between the Hungarian and US prosecutor’s offices would help increase the efficacy of criminal proceedings.
At the end of the meeting, the sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation, the prosecutor’s office said.
