Trade unions welcome top court’s annulment of Labour Code provision on collective agreements

Three trade unions have welcomed a recent decision by the Constitutional Court annulling a provision of the Labour Code regulating collective agreements, the National Federation of Workers' Councils (MOSZ) told MTI on Thursday.

The court’s decision on Wednesday “sends a clear message” that the unions are eligible to modify or even terminate collective agreements in the future, MOSZ’s vice president, Imre Szilard Szabo, said.

Getting rid of “one of the most absurd” provisions of Hungarian collective labour legislation was, he added, a joint success of the unions.

In its decision, the top court ordered the annulment of the provision and banned its application in ongoing lawsuits.
