The question of immunity rights
‘Then it would quickly become clear whether the members of the Orbán clan or I would be locked up for a longer period of time.’
Magyar explained on social media that it was also about the immunity rights of Tamás Deutsch (Fidesz), the ‘laziest MEP of all time’, who took part in the fewest votes in the EP. He wanted to press charges against him because Deutsch had committed the criminal offence of defamation in public with malicious intent under Section 226 of the Criminal Code by lying about him in recent weeks.
Deutsch informed EP
Deutsch, for his part, informed MEPs in a letter and an attached video that Attorney General Péter Polt is asking the EP to waive MEP Péter Magyar’s immunity for theft.
On 21 June 2024, Magyar enjoyed himself in a Budapest club, where ‘according to witnesses, he behaved scandalously and made morally inappropriate offers to women’. According to the indictment, a victim filmed Magyar’s behaviour with her mobile phone, whereupon he got into an argument with her. Magyar then snatched the phone from the victim’s hand and put it in his pocket. Magyar was thrown out by security staff and later threw the stolen phone into the Danube.
