Szijjarto: Information can be offered on Hungarian hostages only if it does not threaten their security

Information can be offered on Hungarian hostages involved in the armed conflict in the Middle East only if it does not threaten their security in any way, the minister of foreign affairs and trade said on Saturday.

Peter Szijjarto said on Facebook that many people were asking about and were following with concern the hostage drama in the Middle East conflict.

“We were all pleased to learn about the agreement reached with the help of Qatar under which Hamas was willing to release part of the hostages,” he said.

“I maintain continual contacts with Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi. The Qatari colleagues are making every effort to enable more hostages and more Hungarians in captivity to regain their freedom,” he added.

Szijjarto asked for everyone’s understanding and patience, adding that it was a fragile agreement in a crisis situation involving human lives.
