Szijjarto asks CoE Sec-Gen to help Ukraine Hungarians

Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Thursday talked to Marija Pejcinovic Buric, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and briefed her on the situation regarding Hungarian communities in Ukraine.

During the phone call, Szijjarto told Pejcinovic Buric that the Hungarian government found it “unacceptable and outrageous” that the Ukrainian secret services had “taken intimidating action” against Hungarian communities in Transcarpathia, in south-western Ukraine.

“I asked the Secretary General to use all means at the Council’s disposal to get the Ukrainian authorities to stop their attacks against Hungarian communities and to respect and implement the Venice Commission’s recommendations,” Szijjarto said in a Facebook post.
