MSZP wants clarification on safety measures

Socialist MP turns to football association chief over UEFA Super Cup final

A Socialist Party lawmaker has turned to Sandor Csanyi, the head of the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ), seeking clarification on safety measures to be put in place at the UEFA Super Cup final scheduled to be held in Budapest before spectators on September 24.

Ildiko Borbely Bango told an online press conference that she has asked Csanyi in a letter whether he agrees with the decision to host an event in which Hungarians and foreign fans “will be experimented on”.

“UEFA itself is referring to next week’s match, which is being held with the consent of [Prime Minister] Viktor Orban’s government, as human experimentation,” Borbely Bango said.

The politician said she has put the question to Csanyi whether the 20,000 fans who will be allowed into the stadium would be safe and whether the Hungarian people would be safe after the event. Borbely Bango added that she also wanted to know whether the MLSZ president would take responsibility for any new coronavirus infections or fatalities resulting from the event.

The UEFA Super Cup final will see Europa League winner Sevilla face Champions League winner Bayern Munich.
