Ruling party MEPs call for ‘pro-sovereignty’ EU budget
According to PfE, a turnaround is needed from the European Commission’s “totally ill-advised budget proposal”. Rather than “a continued promotion of migration”, the bloc needs a budget aimed at supporting border controls and protecting Europe and its citizens. The group has proposed increasing the EU’s border control budget by one billion euros, the statement said.
PfE would also eliminate “EU propaganda to curb national sovereignty” and “institutionalised political blackmail, the jihad of the rule of law, and support for gender ideology and the woke frenzy from EU coffers”, the statement said.
The group has submitted its amendment proposals to the 2025 EU budget, and urged that the community funds withheld from Hungary be released as soon as possible. They also suggested freezing some 1.5 billion euros from the EU’s regional development policy “to ensure that the unpaid funds due to Hungary should not be spent on other purposes or in other countries”.
Concerning the ERASMUS programme, they have similarly proposed that 70 million euros should be frozen to ensure that the funds owed to Hungary could not be spent for other purposes.
