Romania-Hungary cross-border cooperation gets HUF 70 billion

Financing for cross-border cooperation between Romania and Hungary will amount to 70 billion forints (EUR 182.4m) in the period up to 2027, according to an announcement on Thursday.

Interreg projects implemented through the European Regional Development Fund with European Union and government funding by the two states are aimed at creating a greener and more cohesive cross-border region, the government office of Hajdu-Bihar County said on its website.

In the 2021-2027 period, Arad (Arad), Bihor (Bihar), Satu Mare (Szatmar) and Timis (Temes) counties in Romania, and Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg, Hajdu-Bihar, Bekes and Csongrad-Csanad counties in Hungary can apply for funding in three areas.

Fully 23 billion forints is available for promoting the use of renewable energy sources and the protection of nature and biological diversity, while 39 billion is available for improving access to health care and promoting culture and sustainable tourism. Almost 8 billion forints will go towards increasing cross-border cooperation.
