Record year of 2022 will soon be history

According to DataHouse, over 81,100 used cars changed hands on the market in October - an increase of almost 12% compared to the same month last year.

The annual record of 825,000 vehicles from 2022 could therefore already be broken in November, commented the specialist portal joautok.hu. The persistently difficult income conditions in recent years have prompted broad sections of buyers to invest more in cheaper used cars instead of purchasing new vehicles. The euro exchange rate of over 400 forints also attracted buyers who had previously considered importing a used car. Meanwhile, spectacular interest rate cuts boosted credit-financed sales compared to the previous year.

Six brands account for almost half of total sales on the used car market this year. Opel tops the list with 83,000 vehicles sold and a market share of 10.9%. VW has maintained 2nd place since 2019 with a stable 10.2%. It is followed by Suzuki (8.2%), Ford (7.9%), BMW (6.1%) and Skoda (5.5%). In the first ten months of the year, 766,200 cars changed hands – an increase of 11.4% compared to the previous year. The number of imported used cars rose by 4% to 92,900 vehicles in the same period.
