Population decline continues
In October 2024 a total of 6,618 children were born, 6.9% or 487 fewer than in October 2023.
10,836 people lost their lives, 1.3% or 141 less than a year earlier.
The natural decrease was 4,218, as opposed to 3,872 in October 2023.
3,634 couples got married, which was 15% or 626 less than a year earlier.
In January–October 2024 64,859 children were born, 6,992 or 9.7% less than in January–October 2023. Within this, the number of live births was 9.1% lower in January–March, 6.8% lower in April–May, 14% lower in June–August and 7.2% lower in September–October than in the same periods of 2023.
The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.39 per female, which was 1.52 a year earlier.
There were 104,708 deaths, almost the same or 39 fewer than one year earlier. Compared to the same periods of the previous year, 1.1% more people died in January–February, 7.8% more in July–September, while 5.7% less people deceased in March–June and 1.3% less in October than in the corresponding periods of the previous year.
Due to the balance of births and deaths, the natural decrease was 39,849 people, which was 21% more than the value of 32,896 for January–October 2023.
41,826 couples got married, 5.7% or 2,541 less than a year earlier. 27% more marriages were registered in January–February, 3.2% more in April–May and 2.0% more in August, but 1.9% less in March, 14% less in June–July and 19% less in September–October compared to the corresponding periods of 2023.
There were 8.1 live births and 13.1 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was 0.9 per mille points lower, while that of deaths was almost the same as in January–October 2023. The rate of natural decrease increased by 0.9 per mille points to 5.0 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.9 per thousand live births, which was 0.9 per mille points more compared to the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 5.2 per mille, 0.3 per mille points lower than a year earlier.
Between November 2023 and October 2024 78,233 children were born, 9.6% or 8,332 fewer than in the previous twelve months.
There were 128,137 deaths, 0.2% or 201 fewer than in the previous twelve months.
47,598 couples got married, 5.4% or 2,731 fewer than in the previous twelve months.
