Poor air quality plagues some cities in Hungary

Air quality is still poor in some Hungarian cities, due to a high concentration of airborne particulates, the National Public Health Centre (NNK) said on Friday.

The authority declared air quality to be “dangerous” in four north-eastern localities, namely Miskolc, Putnok, Kazincbarcika and Sajoszentpeter.

Air quality has deteriorated to unhealthy levels in Eger, Nyiregyhaza, Debrecen, Szolnok, Kecskemet, Szeged and Ajka.

Concentrations of particulates are also considered to be too high in another 13 cities and towns nationwide, NNK said.

Vulnerable groups such as children, people suffering from a chronic illness and the elderly are the particular targets of the warning.
