PM approves opening of emergency reservoir along Leitha
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Tuesday inspected the flood defence work along the Leitha river where he and MP Istvan Nagy were briefed on the protection efforts in the region by water and disaster management experts, his press chief said.
The prime minister gave his approval for opening the emergency reservoir between the Leitha’s main embankment and the left-bank channel, Bertalan Havasi told MTI. The opening of the emergency reservoir ensures that the water will not break through the primary defence lines and guarantees the safety of Mosonmagyarovar and its residents, the statement said.
Later on Tuesday, Orbán visited the flood prevention works in Neszmely and Komarom, in north-western Hungary. He and Judit Bertalan Czunyi, the region’s MP, visited those building the defences on the Danube bank, Havasi said.
