Photovoltaic capacities are growing rapidly

In November, the total installed capacity of large PV systems exceeded 4,000 MW, as announced by the Ministry of Energy.

According to the transmission system operator Mavir Zrt., the 4,030 MW represents a twelve-fold increase in capacity compared to the end of 2018. Industrial green electricity producers exceeded the threshold of 2,000 MW in 2022 and 3,000 MW last year. A new record for green electricity generation with the help of the sun was set in August with 3,346 MW. The total capacity of solar installations from 50 kW upwards grew by a record 777 MW last year. The growth rate for the first eleven months of this year is 728.5 MW, so it cannot be ruled out that the best annual figure ever will be surpassed again.

Including PV power generators for own use, the installed capacity of industrial plants currently totals 4,758 MW. Hungary reached its target of 6,000 MW total solar capacity (including private households) for 2030 six years earlier and has now exceeded it by more than a fifth. The Ministry of Energy has therefore set a new target of 12,000 MW for the beginning of the next decade in the revised National Energy and Climate Plan.
