Parliament to debate proposal on sell-off of council flats

Lawmakers are expected to begin debating a bill on the sale of local council owned apartments affecting mostly Budapest districts during a three-day session starting on Tuesday.

According to the agenda proposed by the speaker, the session will begin at 1pm on Tuesday with speeches prior to the agenda, which will be followed by questions to members of the government.

On Wednesday, lawmakers could vote to amend this year’s budget and pass a law on real estate records.

The votes will be followed by debates on ten proposals. These include a bill submitted by ruling Fidesz MP Laszlo Borocz that would enable current tenants of council properties to buy them at discounted prices and an amendment proposal to the Civil Code.

On Thursday, parliament is scheduled to debate the establishment of a foundation to operate Fudan Hungary University, the local campus of China’s Fudan University, the establishment of a student quarter in Budapest’s 9th district, as well as an amendment proposal to the law on nuclear energy.
