Parbeszed to submit proposal to update national energy plan

The opposition Parbeszed party is submitting a proposal to parliament on updating Hungary's energy and climate plan, the party's co-leader said on Thursday.

Under the proposal, Hungary would cut greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent by 2030, and energy consumption by 11.7 percent. The ratio of renewable resources would be raised to 42.5 percent from 21 percent, Bence Tordai said.

Benedek Javor, the party’s advisor on EU affairs, noted that all EU states must update their energy and climate plans by June 30. The plans must the adapted to the EU’s goal to cut emissions by 55 percent by 2030, he said.

“Hungary’s aims and situation are very far from what’s expected,” he said.
