Orbán: ‘If we want peace, we can’t vote for the left’

"If we want peace, we can't vote for the left," Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on the campaign trail in western Hungary on Saturday.

“If we want peace . only Fidesz and the Christian Democrats are capable of giving that to Hungary,” Orbán said in a video posted on Facebook.

The war in Ukraine “which has settled onto this parliamentary election like a cloud” has not lowered but instead raised the stakes in the election, the prime minister said.

“It is no longer just the question of whether we will go back to where we were before 2010 that is at stake in this election,” Orbán said. “The matter of war and peace is now at stake.”

“If we want security for Hungary, we can only expect that from Fidesz and the [allied ruling] Christian Democratic People’s Party,” he said.

The prime minister on Saturday met with voters in Nagykanizsa, his press chief told MTI.
