Official: Consumer protection a priority for government

Consumer protection is a main priority for the Hungarian government and it is welcome that it will be an important issue for the EU in future, a senior official of the justice ministry said in Brussels on Tuesday.

Nora Kupecki, deputy state secretary for consumer protection, attended a meeting of her EU member counterparts which was held to discuss current and future challenges concerning consumer protection.

She told MTI that among the challenges, they discussed the effects Brussels’ sanctions have on consumers including the economic crisis and inflation, and measures by member states to tackle them.

Kupecki said the Hungarian government will support the EU legislation being currently drafted that ensure consumer protection. She noted among them a decree on product safety as well as proposals related to sustainability, the environmentally friendly labeling of products and the green transition.
