NBH: Working relationship between PM, central bank governor remains close
In a statement, the NBH criticised recent “false rumours” and “erroneous conclusions” by news agency Bloomberg and opposition MEP Istvan Ujhelyi concerning Hungary, the central bank and the prime minister’s relationship with the bank’s governor.
“Contrary to the false rumours, Prime Minister Viktor Orban and central bank governor Gyorgy Matolcsy have a fair working relationship and continue to hold regular consultations on professional matters as they have in recent years,” the NBH said.
The central bank called on the news outlets and politicians in question to refrain from releasing information containing “false conclusions and untrue statements” in order to retain confidence in the domestic financial system and inform the public in an objective manner.
