Motorists stage demonstration for extension of M0 motorway’s northern section
Participants at the demonstration organised by the 2011 Association of Environmental and Value Protection blocked the exits on the motorway towards Budakalasz and Szentendre with more than 20 cars between 3pm and 5pm.
Gergely Forian-Szabo, deputy mayor of Budakalasz, told MTI that motorists had been waiting for the M0 motorway around the capital to be extended since the completion of the Megyeri Bridge 15 years ago.
Since then, traffic from M0 has to go through the nearby settlements, effecting the quality of life of some 100,000 residents, he said.
He noted that the completion of the northern section had been considered a priority national economic investment, but the project had not even reached the planning stage.
An agreement on the completion of the plans was finally reached last December, but will only enter into force if the government allocates funding for the work, the deputy mayor said.
