More e-buses from Ikarus

The intercity bus company Volánbusz is to receive a further 20 environmentally friendly, fully electric Ikarus 120e buses for use in six small towns.

With financial support from the Ministry of Energy and the mobility agency HUMDA, e-buses are being added to the local bus fleet in several small towns. The vehicles will be supplied to Volánbusz by the Ikarus Group after a contract to this effect was signed on Tuesday. The consortium of Volánbusz and Mobiliti Volánbusz Kft. received a grant of more than 4.4 billion forints (just under 11 million euros) in a tender organised by HUMDA Zrt.

Six in one go for Tata

In the first half of 2025, three new all-electric buses will be put into operation in Balatonfüred, one in Hajdúszoboszló, one in Keszthely, two in Komárom, seven in Komló and six in Tata. Mobiliti Volánbusz Kft, a joint venture between MVM Mobiliti Kft and Volánbusz, received an 80% subsidy in the tender for the construction of the associated charging infrastructure.

Technical details and fleet development

The Ikarus 120e low-floor electric buses can carry a total of 85 passengers on 30 seats and can travel up to 300 kilometres on a single charge. Ikarus brand electric vehicles in Székesfehérvár have already covered around 1.35 million kilometres since the summer of 2022 to everyone’s satisfaction. The development of the green fleet will continue with the first hydrogen fuel cell bus from Volánbusz in 2026. As part of the ‘Green Buses’ programme coordinated by HUMDA, Volánbusz has so far put a total of 100 electric buses into operation in the capital’s catchment area and in urban transport in Székesfehérvár, Zalaegerszeg, Győr, Eger, Szolnok and Szeged.
