Minister: Nyiregyhaza-Satu Mare motorway to be complete in 2026
A motorway link between Nyiregyhaza, in north-eastern Hungary, and Romania's Satu Mare (Szatmarnemeti) will be completed by the end of 2026, the construction and transport minister said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a speedway construction in Nyirmeggyes, in north-eastern Hungary, Janos Lazar said the new link would be built in two phases on the Hungarian side, consisting of a 28 kilometre and a 17.5 kilometre section, respectively. Hungary’s Duna Aszfalt has started the construction of the first section, using a budget of 175 billion forints (EUR 460m). The second section will cost between 150-160 billion forints, the minister added.
The link will “remove obstacles to economic and social cooperation” between regions on either side of the border, Lazar said.
