Minister: Nestle’s HUF 90 billion investment to create 280 jobs

Nestle Hungaria is investing 90 billion forints (EUR 231.5m) to expand the capacity of its plant in Buk, in south-west Hungary, and will create 280 jobs in the process, Peter Szijjarto, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said on Thursday.

The pet food manufacturing plant in Buk uses sustainable resources to produce its electricity, Szijjarto said.

Szijjarto noted that Nestle conducted a 390 million forint training programme, which the government supported with a 193 million forint grant, he said. The programme contributed to “the Hungarian economy’s technological progress,” he said.

Fully 90 percent of Nestle’s products are exported, further raising Hungary’s trade balance, he said.

Hungary’s food industry employs 145,000 people, and its value jumped to 6,500 billion forints by 2022, he added.

Plant head Peter Noszek said the Buk plant is scheduled to create over 500 jobs between 2020 and 2025, and has employees from 187 localities in the area.
