Minister: Hungary’s higher education ‘competitive, attractive’

Hungarian universities and colleges are "competitive and attractive", the minister of culture and innovation told a press conference on Thursday, adding that both last year and in 2024 over 90,000 freshmen have been admitted.

This year, 90,334 young people have passed the entrance examinations, “with every second to study in areas that will serve the Hungarian economy” such as technology, natural science, engineering, IT, agriculture, medicine, as well as teaching, Balazs Hanko said.

Nearly 13,000 students will start their studies in teaching , twice as many as in 2022, he said.

The minister welcomed that the ratio of students older than 30 among the newly admitted was increasing, currently around 20 percent, and suggested that more and more people chose to study while working at the same time.
