Millions for teachers’ salaries from the EU
The EU will provide around 1.8 billion euros for teachers' pay rises by 2030. By 2030, it will support salary increases with 5 million forints per teacher.
The second stage of the salary increase for teachers will be implemented in the coming days, so that the average salary of teachers will reach 80% of the average salary of academics, the European Commission’s representation in Hungary said on Tuesday.
The Commission’s country reports repeatedly emphasise the growing problem of the shortage of teachers, which is partly due to low wages. Hungary and the EU have agreed on the minimum conditions for a permanent salary increase in 2022 in order to make the teaching profession more attractive. The necessary dialogue with the teachers’ unions is also part of improving the quality of education and therefore also part of the agreement between Hungary and the EU.
