Magyar loses popularity

Is the government camp already breathing a sigh of relief? Not only has the Századvég Institute identified a ‘stable advantage’ for Fidesz-KDNP, but more and more people are turning away from Péter Magyar.

With these statements, the pro-government opinion research institute summarises the current poll results (from the beginning of December). Among active voters, the governing parties are ahead of the challenger Tisza Party (31%) with 40%, while among determined voters, 42% support Fidesz and 34% support Tisza. The satirical party MKKP (7%) and the right-wing Mi Hazánk (6-7%) would also make it into parliament, while the DK (4-5%) is currently shaky. Among the other parties, the Századvég Institute was only able to measure the liberal Momentum (3%) and the socialist MSZP (1%), which would clearly fail at the 5% hurdle.

Citizens were asked separately about scandalous statements made by Tisza leader Péter Magyar. The balance of voters who have a positive or negative opinion of the opposition leader has doubled to -18 points in the Századvég polls since September. Most recently, the proportion of respondents with a favourable opinion of him fell to 39%, while the proportion of his critics rose to 57%.
