LMP submits referendum initiative to scrap law on preferential projects
Opposition LMP has submitted a national referendum initiative aimed to scrap the law on expedited implementation of preferential investment projects, the deputy group leader of the party said on Monday.
“The law is one of unlawfulness,” Antal Csardi told a press conference in front of the National Election Office’s headquarters. It prevents local residents from expressing their opinion and protest against such investments that could influence their life, Csardi said. The law at the same time gives “investors favoured by the government” extra advantages, he said, noting that they are not required to hold a public debate about their project or observe environmental regulations.
He said experience of the past several years had shown that “the government has used the law for nothing else but giving their buddies advantages”.
