LMP proposes to scrap ‘discriminatory’ passages from adoption law amendment

The opposition LMP is submitting a proposal to parliament, motioning to scrap amendments to adoptions law which the party sees as discriminatory against single parents and those living in registered partnerships.

Lawmaker Krisztina Hohn told an online press conference on Thursday that the amendment did not help to provide stability for the children, which is their primary interest, and excluded many adults “who crave children and would be capable to give them that stability.”

Meanwhile, Hohn said the regulation was “bad messaging” to the experts of the adoptive care system who worked to determine the eligibility of would-be parents in a rigorous procedure.

Hohn, an adoptive parent herself, called on the government to mark Human Rights Day by “ending its discriminatory policies”.
