LMP calls on Hungarian MEPs to support EP amendment proposal on EU Nature Restoration Law
Opposition LMP has asked Hungarian MEPs in an open letter to vote in support of the European Union's Nature Restoration Law.
Party co-leader Erzsebet Schmuck told an online press conference that in line with the proposal, the condition of natural habitats in the EU must be assessed by 2030 and 30 percent of those in poor conditions must be rehabilitated.
The current proposal is already a “watered down” version of a previous proposal which included rehabilitating 90 percent of natural habitants but it “blew the fuse” with most member countries, she said.
Schmuck said it would be “globally shameful” if the reduced target was rejected. She added that the EP environmental protection committee had already rejected the proposal, mostly due to the votes of People’s Party delegates.
