LMP: Appreciation for social workers only possible with change of government
Opposition LMP believes that the work of social workers will only be fully appreciated if there is a change of government, a party lawmaker said at a press conference on Facebook on Sunday.
Peter Ungar said the current cabinet had not appreciated the extra work of social workers even as they did everything possible to reduce the number of victims of the coronavirus pandemic. Social workers did not get the one-off 500,000 forint (EUR 1,360) bonus that health-care workers so deservedly got, he added.
He called it “unacceptable” that just 4 percent of social workers infected with Covid while at work got their full sick-leave benefit. He added that it was “incomprehensible” that the government had inoculated nursing home workers, but not those providing in-home care or caring for children.
