Karacsony presents ‘Budapest NGO of the Year’ award to legal aid group
“It is by accident, but may be fated, that we are presenting this award on February 1, the day of the Republic,” Karacsony said at the ceremony. “The republic is also about the concept that our home country belongs to all of us.”
Accepting the award, Natalia Kiss, co-leader of the association, said they have worked “for real equality for homeless people” over the past 12 years.
The municipality of Budapest established the award in 2022. The winner is chosen in an online vote by Budapest residents from among ten shortlisted organisations on the basis of their contribution to the capital’s development and the well-being of its residents, according to a press release distributed at the event.
The honour goes with a one million forint (EUR 2,500) cash award.
