Justice minister meets Hungarian executives of Google

Justice Minister Judit Varga met Hungarian executives of Google to discuss forthcoming European Union regulations on "Big Tech" companies. She said on Facebook on Thursday that thanks to the work of the Digital Freedom Committee, Hungary was at the forefront of developing a common European regulation.

“In Hungary, similarly to other European countries, we do not want to set any other expectations for large tech companies than a legal, transparent and controllable operation,” she said.

“Nothing more than what applies to other companies and small businesses too,” she added.

Varga said the one thing that Hungary wanted to achieve was “to protect the personal data and freedom of expression of the Hungarian people at the highest level and within the framework of a transparent regulation”.

She added that an exchange of views would continue and invited everyone to share theirs at https://digitalisszabadsag.kormany.hu/varjuk-velemenyet.

Varga announced on March 5 that she would hold consultations with Google and also initiated talks with Facebook and other Big Tech companies.
