Varga said the report was based on “uncertain indicators, biased NGOs and prejudices similarly to previous years” but welcomed that the government’s talks with the commission “are now focused on solutions rather than the problems”. “We will retain our most fundamental approach: honesty,” she said adding that “we have talked about the problems in a straightforward manner and now we are straightforward about the solutions, too”.

The European Parliament, however, has decided to “remain part of the problem rather than of the solution as its LIBE commission passed the report by Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield” proposing to cut EU funds to Hungary, Varga said. The report “echoes the left’s accusations without regard to facts and professional arguments”, which she said cast doubt on the professionalism of LIBE and the report’s author.
