Jobbik: Goals today same as in 1848

Opposition Jobbik-Conservatives leader Marton Gyongyosi marked the national holiday at an event in Budapest, stating that there were similarities between Hungary's situation 175 years ago and today, and the goal is that the country should not fall out of the group of European nations but develop together with them.

He told the event at the Batthyany Eternal Flame monument near Parliament that Hungary always belonged to the western side of the Europe culturally, and the majority of Hungarians agreed that it should not fall out from “the bloodstream of the continent”.

He said that over recent centuries, Russian weapons were most often involved in “trampling Hungary’s freedom”.

“The current regime in power openly goes against Europe and cosies up to Russia instead,” he said. Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s goal is clear: “he wants to lead Hungary out of Europe and move our country to Russia’s sphere of interest,” he added.
