Jobbik changes name at party congress
He told a season-opener attended by around 300 people that the party promises to represent values “missing in Hungary’s political life and under attack everywhere around the world”. He invited everyone “dedicated to a civic, European Hungary” to join.
“We must restore respect for the right wing,” he said and described the party as a “new, composed but resolute conservative political force”.
He said Jobbik does not want to follow foreign paradigms or “turn back the clock”. He called the party a “modern, right-wing political community that rejects the omnipotence of the state and believes that the freedom of individuals also means the freedom of communities”. He added that Jobbik rejects all forms of “social demagogy” and “unnecessary centralisation” .
