Is Hungary helping the Mossad?

Mi Hazánk has filed a criminal complaint and demanded that an extraordinary meeting of the parliamentary committee on national security be convened. The reason: The so-called pagers, which exploded thousands of times in Lebanon, were allegedly supplied by a Hungarian company.

‘Unfortunately, the counter-terrorism centre TEK has not yet appeared here,’ said party vice-president Előd Novák, who demanded clarification about the cover or front company of the Israeli secret service Mossad at the headquarters of the Budapest-based company BAC Consulting Kft. on Wednesday afternoon. For Mi Hazánk, it is unacceptable that Hungary’s government supports Israel’s international state terrorism. If the country is drawn into the escalating Middle East conflict, this also increases the risk of terrorism for Hungarians, the opposition politician emphasised. The fact that Hungary has unilaterally sided with Israel since 7 October 2023 despite the brutal Gaza offensive and is thus acting against peace in the region also weakens the country’s foreign trade relations with the Arab world.

After the serious incident, in which several people were killed and thousands injured in Lebanon and Syria, the Israeli secret service and the manufacturer of the pagers were immediately suspected of being behind the brutal action. The manufacturer is Gold Apollo from Taiwan, which claimed that the specific product was manufactured under licence by a Hungarian company. BAC Consulting in Budapest, named from Taiwan, immediately denied having any manufacturing capacity. Hezbollah switched from mobile phones to pagers only months ago because they were supposedly more secure (against eavesdropping).

Government denies

The State Secretary for International Communications, Zoltán Kovács, communicated the Orbán government’s official position on the matter via social media on Wednesday evening. ‘Investigations by our authorities have shown that the Hungarian company in question is an intermediary, without its own branch or production facility. The incriminated pagers were never located on the territory of Hungary. There is no risk to the national security of Hungary.’
