Hungary to purchase 40 more armoured combat vehicles

The Hungarian army has signed an agreement to purchase an additional 40 armoured fighting vehicles, Gaspar Maroth, government commissioner for defence development, said on Monday.

The purchase deal is part of a military development scheme whose next phase will see the production of armoured vehicles and related R and D move to Hungary, the statement said.

The project follows the model of the procurement and manufacturing of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, it said, adding that in the first phase, the new vehicles will be supplied by a Turkish company that will grant the licence for their production at a plant in southern Hungary’s Kaposvar.

The manufacturing of the vehicles will be handled in cooperation with Germany, the statement said.
