Hungary sees 20 percent more rain than average for first half of year

Hungary has seen about 20 percent more rain than average in the first half of the year, almost double the amount that fell in the first six months of last year when the country battled severe droughts, the national weather service said on Monday.

The mountainous regions and the area south-west of the Danube saw more than 400 millimetres of rain, while rainfall reached 700 millimetres on Kekesteto, Hungary’s highest peak, in the first six months, the weather service said on Facebook.

The driest part of the country has been the southern Great Plain, with 200-250 millimetres of rain.

By contrast, most parts of the country saw less than 250 millimetres or rainfall in the first six months of last year.
