Hungary receives 280,000 doses of Sputnik V

Hungary has taken delivery of a new batch of 280,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, the foreign minister said on Thursday.

The vaccine will be distributed for use as soon as the National Public Health Centre (NNK) green-lights it, Peter Szijjarto said in a video on Facebook.

“The race to save and protect people’s lives and health is becoming harsher by the day,” he said. Infection numbers are growing exponentially throughout Europe, and new, more aggressive variants are emerging, while younger and younger people are getting seriously ill, he said.

Vaccines are the only remedy to the situation, he added.

“We need to inoculate as many people as fast as possible,” Szijjarto said.
