Gulyas in Berlin: Hungary has many friends in Germany
Attending an event on Monday in Berlin, Gergely Gulyas, the head of the Prime Minister's Office, said that Hungary "still has many friends in Germany", adding that Germany "is important to Hungary", notwithstanding "disparaging debates" in German politics about Hungary.
Gulyas attended the presentation of the German-language book by former Interior Minister Imre Konya attended by several leading politicians of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
He noted to public media that Wolfgang Schauble and Rita Sussmuth, the two former presidents of the Bundestag, as well as Armin Laschet, the former prime minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, were in attendance, suggesting that “there are still many people who value Hungary’s role in the change of political system”.
“They realise that Hungary contributes to representing traditional European values in Europe through its endeavours and policies,” he added.
