The plant will introduce a special technology to conserve water resources, which is a rarity not only in Hungary but worldwide, reported the regional portal haon.hu. The new process will enable the industrial use of purified wastewater and thus minimise the use of drinking water in the production process. The company is endeavouring to enter into a partnership with the residents of the city and be a good neighbour.
As one of BMW’s main suppliers, Eve Power’s plant in Debrecen will have a major impact on the German carmaker’s operations and the jobs created by BMW. The battery cells produced by Eve Power will form a major component of BMW’s New Class. The plant is expected to run predominantly on clean energy and will fulfil the expectations of BMW and local residents as well as regulatory requirements. The authorities and the city of Debrecen emphasised that the Chinese investor is expected to comply with stricter environmental and health and safety regulations than are standard in the EU. The greatest possible transparency is also to be guaranteed.
Eve Power, the ninth largest battery manufacturer in the world, announced in May 2023 that it would build its first European plant in Debrecen with an investment of around 400 billion forints (1 billion euros). The investment will create more than 1,000 jobs. Construction of the battery cell plant in the north-west economic zone of Debrecen is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The plant is scheduled to go into operation with one production line in 2026 and then gradually increase its capacity.
