Great desire to travel during the autumn holidays
Accommodation turnover rose ‘spectacularly’ by a sixth compared to the previous year, according to the state tourism agency MTÜ. Almost 1.2 million overnight stays were registered, which corresponds to an increase of 11% compared to 2023. Domestic travellers contributed to the success with an increase of 10%, international tourists with +20%. Budapest remains a popular destination, especially among foreign visitors. The vast majority (170,000) of the more than 250,000 foreign travellers who visited our country chose the capital, spending more than 400,000 nights in Budapest hotels alone.
However, destinations outside the capital were also winners of this year’s autumn holidays. Of the approximately 280,000 domestic guests, 9 out of 10 chose spa resorts such as Eger, Zalakaros, Gyula, Hévíz and Hajdúszoboszló. Most foreigners travelling to the countryside visited Hévíz, Bükk, Sárvár, Győr and Szeged. Most international tourists came from the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. Accommodation service providers achieved a nationwide turnover of 29 billion forints during the autumn holidays, 24% more than in the previous year. Budapest accounted for 11.4 billion forints of this (+26%).
